  concerned people from all over the world were calling in to get the latest news on what is going on in the world of the watchtower.. our first guest was barbara anderson and she brought us up to speed on the criminal complaint the watchtower organization is facing in australia.

  Did Rick ever make his trip down to Brooklyn to meet with J the B? He was supposed to meet J the B outside of the WT buildings and maybe take him to lunch or for a long walk. Does anyone know if that ever happened?

  I listen in to Rick's show every so often, but I find in very exhausting and somewhat out of control. There is a lot of preaching between the regulars - and there is a distinct evangelical flavor to the way the conversations are managed.

  Yes, you all have good points and well-deserved criticisms of Rick's conference calls, but I still believe his heart is in the right place and his intent has always been to try and keep both openly anti-JWs and cautious insiders informed and connected.

  Rick's conference calls are really directed to a specific audience - while open to all listeners. I can tell he wants to open the program up to a wider field of contributors, but fear or shyness on the part of those who are not a part of his small group of insiders clearly frustrates him.

  Dude...Memorial on Sunday? and the Battle for sd-7 Continues

  i've gotten past much of my grieving over the whole marriage-destruction thing, largely by drowning out reality.

  i've been even more of a movie-head than usual--and that's saying an awful lot.

  also, the quality of my meals has gone down considerably.

  Any chance they'll be serving a fine Pinot Noir or a cabernet? If so, I might decide to go check it out this year.

  When I was a kid they would serve Mogen David (kosher, of course). But I heard that some KHs would just get a bottle of red table wine. I remember that whatever they served smelled heavy and ghastly, at least to a 10-12 year old. They'd always buy about three bottles for the memorial, but only a half-dozen would partake. I wonder why they bought so much?

  Finished Mystery (1917)... The book that Jesus approved...

  so a few months ago, a friend sent me an actual copy of finished mystery which was published in 1917 (not a pdf download... the actual book).

  i must say, this was the most disturbing book i have ever had the displeasure of reading.

  but i only read it because this was the main publication that was being distributed worldwide when jesus supposedly chose the watchtower in 1918 and i basically wanted to see for myself what jesus saw in the wt that would compel him to choose this religious corporation over all other religious denominations.. anyway, if anyone is interested in knowing the actual contents of this book, here are some bullet points i put together from some of the notes i took as i read the book:.

  In case anyone is still following this story, there are some updates posted at Ex-JW.com. There is a lot more to come in the weeks ahead.

  I urge anyone who reads this website and lives in the Menlo Park, Palo Alto, or Redwood City (CA) areas, to please contact me through that website. I urge anyone with additional information or insight to share their knowledge with me so that I can round out the story and fill in some of the gaps. I see a lot of hits to the website coming in from the SF south bay area, so I know that there are more of you out there following this story.

  Want to see how the official Watchtower media website describes the "disaster relief" activities?

  Just go to http://www.jw-media.org/ .

  There is a section that says "Disaster Relief Efforts" which includes Witnesses meeting in Kingdom Halls and doing a new quick build. Not a single photo of anyone passing out food, rendering first aid, rebuilding private homes - nothing.

  Currently their "top story" is about the "relief work in Japan. The tagline says:

  "In the two weeks since the devastating earthquake and tsunami struck Japan, Jehovah’s Witnesses have been working hard to provide assistance to their fellow believers and other victims in the affected areas. Emerging details are helping the Witnesses and others performing relief work to get a clearer picture of what is needed to help the victims..."

  But nothing specific is outlined - just that they are getting a "clearer picture of what is needed..."

  Apparently they recognized that the original article they posted that said "aid was being rushed to the brothers in the affected areas," the updated article posted March 25th states:

  " The Witnesses’ branch office in Japan established contact with local congregations to assist them in obtaining information on the 115 Witnesses who were reported missing as of March 15; that number has now been reduced to 16. While initial reports indicated that five places of worship used by the Witnesses, called Kingdom Halls, were destroyed, the branch office has now confirmed that three Kingdom Halls were destroyed and another three Kingdom Halls were damaged extensively or flooded. Sadly, the branch office also confirmed that the death toll among the Witnesses has risen to four."

  So what is the nature of their relief efforts, financed by the their millions of dollars "donated by the worldwide work"?

  "One of the teams of Witnesses providing relief to the disaster victims reported that 11 truckloads of supplies were sent to one affected area during the first few days. Despite the many challenges faced by the victims, congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the areas devastated by the tsunami have continued to hold worship services, providing spiritual comfort and encouragement to both the Witnesses themselves and their non-Witness neighbors in the area."

  Hey, maybe we could cancel the meetings and go to the damaged areas and help look for people or set up first aid and feeding stations? No, we continue to hold worship services and provide "spiritual comfort and encouragement." Way to go Watchtower! Eleven truckloads? Knowing the Watchtower, they were probably short bed Nissan pickups loaded with out of date Watchtower and Awake! magazines for people to read while they are waiting for some food, water, and meaningful assistance.

  If you do decide to picket or protest at or near a Kingdom Hall remember the rules that apply to most communities:

  If a Kingdom Hall is on a public street, you can picket on the public sidewalk - but you can not block or hinder traffic going in or out. Protest is exercising your freedom of speech. Blocking driveways or roadways is a violation of traffic laws and not protected..

  Most newer Kingdom Halls (quick-builds) have parking wrapping around the main building. To get very close to the entrance of the building would involve trespass. If you go onto the parking lot, even though the public is invited, you are trespassing if your intent is to disrupt the meeting or to discourage anyone from attending. To avoid possible arrest, you must stay on clearly public areas. JWs WILL report trespass and also accuse you of disorderly conduct. They can not do this if you stay on the public sidewalk or along the curbs.

  Some communities require groups of five or more to get a police "parade permit." This is usually just formality to inform the police that you will be there demonstrating and not creating a nuisance. The permits will sometimes limit the hours that you can demonstrate so as not to disturb the peace and tranquilty of a neighborhood. Many communities will not charge you for the permit.

  Some communities limit protests to the "business hours" of a company or church or public gathering. In other words, if you are a union striking a Walmart, then you can protest only during the business/operating hours of that particular store. For a church or community meetings in residential neighborhoods, you would be limited to the hours when meetings were actually being held. So you'd need to wait until an elder showed up and unlocked the doors before you could start and then you'd have to stop when they locked the doors after the meetings.

  Laws vary by communities, so if you do intend to follow koolaid-man's suggestion to picket or protest on Memorial night, be sure to check with your local police department first just to make sure that you are aware of the local laws. Your signs can say anything you want and you can pass out flyers that say whatever you want them to say - but you can't trespass, block traffic, or create a public nuisance.

  Used to be a reserve deputy sheriff and had to deal with these things all the time.

  Does this mean what I think it means?

  it's been about a month and a half since i last talked to the elders.

  today i got a call from one of them.

  he left me a voicemail saying he would like to have me meet with them on sunday after the meeting to discuss some things and to see if there is any way they can be of help.. i haven't been to a meeting since the end of october/beginning of november.

  It's like being called to the police station. Oh no - you're not under arrest. No, you won't need an attorney. We just want to ask you a few questions like where were you at 8:30 AM on 9/11/2001? Can you prove it? Do you have any witnesses that can verify where you were at that hour? Do you now or have you ever had a friend, a relative, a co-worker who was a Muslim, looked like a middle-eastern or western Asian, someone who spoke with an accent, or had a Arabic or middle eastern name like Ali, Muhammad, Abdullah? Did you vote for Barack HUSSEIN Obama? We're just going to take your fingerprints, a drop of blood, and an oral swab - but you are not under arrest. We just want to talk...

  That's all. The committee just wants to ask you a few questions...

  Don't go. Tell them if they have anything they want to talk to you about they can call you on the phone or come to your house. That way you can hang up on them or throw them out. They are in their power base when they are at the Kingdom Hall. Have them come to yours.
